Gatherings
Winter 2012
Every Thursday night at 7:02PM, we gather for “PB&J Night.” We meet in the Nelson Private Dining Room [Nelson Residence Hall] and make nearly 100 PB&J sack lunches that will feed some of the hungry and homeless folks here in the Denver area the very next day. PB&J Night is a fun way to get to know some of your fellow students while doing some good in the world. Did you know there are more than 11,000 people who are homeless in Denver? We think Jesus would be hanging out with these people feeding them, loving them, getting to know them.
Every Friday morning at 11:00AM, we meet on campus and carpool down to El Centro Humanitaro [day labor center] and Civic Center Park where we distribute the sack lunches, clothing, and other items. We also serve Communion to anyone who wishes to partake. But it’s about more than just a lunch—it’s about knowing their names, hearing their stories, and standing with them. Serving & interacting with the least of these is about putting our faith into action.
Jan. 13-“Ryan’s Famous Chili” Back by popular demand…we’ll meet at the Canaday’s house @ 1:30PM for Ryan’s famous chili [well, it’s not famous YET, but it is pretty darn good!]. We’ll hang out, eat some chili, and hear from some of those who studied abroad last quarter.
Jan. 16-“Martin Luther King Jr. Day” We will gather for an evening of reflection. Details TBA.
Feb. 17-“Dinner at Same Café” The Same Café is a restaurant here in Denver. Their intent is to build a healthy community by providing a basic need of food in a respectful and dignified manner to anyone who walks through the door. Let’s meet for dinner there at 5:30PM! Same Café’s address: 2023 E. Colfax, Denver CO, 80206.
*Irreverent Discussion* There will be four of these events this quarter. We will meet in the Wesley Lounge at University Park United Methodist Church [corner of Univ & Warren] from noon-1:00. Lunch will be provided FREE of charge. This will be a time for us to share a meal together and discuss things that most people don’t talk about. We don’t have all the answers and certainly won’t all agree on every issue, but we might just learn from one another. All voices and perspectives are welcome! Below are the dates and topics.
Jan. 11-God?
Jan. 25-Love Who?
Feb. 8- The Bible is Dangerous.
Feb. 22-Open Forum.
